On-site disassembly

On-site Disassembly

For the safe disassembly of lithium batteries on-site, specific procedures are required to prevent accidents and environmental damage. YouPower takes on this responsibility. Here are the key steps to ensure safety:

Preparation:

  • Training: YouPower has trained personnel skilled in handling and disassembling lithium batteries.
  • Protective Gear: We are fully equipped with appropriate protective gear, including gloves, safety goggles, and flame-resistant clothing.
  • Tools: Use of insulated tools to prevent short-circuiting.

Environment:

  • Ventilation: We operate in a well-ventilated space to disperse any harmful gases.
  • Fire Safety: We ensure that fire extinguishing equipment, such as a Class D fire extinguisher, is readily available.

Disassembly Process:

  • Inspection: We inspect the battery for damage or swelling, which could indicate explosion risks or leakage.
  • Discharging: We fully discharge the battery if possible to minimize the risk of electrical shock.
  • Removal of Casing: Carefully remove the outer casing without puncturing the cells.
  • Cell Separation: Carefully separate the individual cells and components (cathode, anode, electrolyte, separator).
  • Storage: Place disassembled components in suitable containers for recycling or disposal.

Post-Disassembly:

  • Cleanup: Clean the work area to remove any residues or debris.
  • Documentation: Document the disassembly process and any incidents for future reference and improvement of safety protocols.

By following these steps, the risks associated with disassembling lithium batteries, such as fire, chemical exposure, and environmental contamination, can be effectively minimized.
